The AS level is the first part of the A level

AS rewards students for their ability to converse in French on a topic area of choice ( including Youth culture & Concerns and The world around us: travel, tourism, environmental issues and the French speaking world). AS requires students to understand and convey understanding of recordings and texts in French. Students are also expected to produce an essay to demonstrate continuous writing skills in French.

A2 is the second part of the A level and is a new syllabus in 2009. It is designed to extend and challenge students' linguistic knowledge and skills.
Unit 3:Understanding and Spoken Response in French

Unit 4: Research, Understanding and Written response in French
Examination: 2 hrs thirty minutes

Some students may wish to study AS and A2 level in the same year by attending two classes (the AS and the A2 class). These students will be working at a faster pace and they will be expected to have a good command of the language at AS level.
