Entry Requirements
Entry is open but the normal route to Technician Level (NVQ4) is through completion of Intermediate Level (NVQ3). Applicants with a UK Degree in Accounting may be accepted directly onto this level.
Suitable For
On this higher level course students are expected to achieve competence in a broad range of complex technical or professional work activities, performed in a wide variety of contexts and with a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy. Responsibility for the work of others and allocation of resources is often required.
Course Content
Students will cover the four compulsory units :
Unit 8 Contributing to the management of performance & enhancement of value
Unit 9 Contributing to the planning & control of resources
Unit 10 Managing systems & people in the accounting environment
Unit 11 Drafting financial statements- accounting practice, industry & commerce
Plus any two from the following four units:
Unit 15 Cash Management and credit control
Unit 17 Implementing auditing procedures
Unit 18 Preparing business taxation computations
Unit 19 Preparing personal taxation computations
Method of Assessment
There are two types of assessment:
- Devolved Assessment
Evidence from the workplace or simulations of real work activities. This takes place as agreed between the student and the tutor. - Central Assessment
An examination set and marked by the AAT, held twice yearly in June and December
Progression
On successful completion of the course, students may wish to progress onto other courses, such as ACCA, CIPFA, ICAEW, CIMA, and ICAS. Each of these Institutes offers AAT qualified Accounting Technicians generous exemptions into their own training schemes.
