Course Content
This one-year course provides you with a general background in understanding accountancy. This course can be studied with other qualifications or as part of the Accountancy Academy.
Study units include:
Recording income and receipts - This unit relates to the invoicing and receiving of payments. It deals with the manual preparing and coding of invoices and credit notes for goods and services supplied. It also looks at statements of account and the manual recording of the invoices and payments. The unit also looks at paying-in documents, incorrect cheques, credit cards and debit cards.
Marking and recording payments - This unit relates to the organisation†s expenditure. It includes dealing with documentation regarding the purchasing, receiving and payment of goods or services received. It also looks at wages and salaries, petty cash, creditors and the security of making payments to suppliers.
Preparing ledger balances and initial trial balances - This unit relates to internal checks in an organisation†s accounting process. It looks at bank reconciliation, control accounts, drafting a trial balance and dealing with any discrepancies.
Supplying information for management control - This unit is about recognising and providing basic management information. It looks at comparisons between actual and budgeted income and expenses for different periods. It also looks at cost centres, the coding of income and expenditure and how to deal with any discrepancies.
Working with computers - This unit demonstrates your ability to safely use a computerised system and the storage of confidential data. We offer at NVQ2 level tuition in Sage Line 50 Computerised Accounts on the Accounting route.
Contributing to the maintenance of a healthy, safe and productive working environment - This unit is about monitoring your working environment and making sure it meets requirements for health, safety, security and effective working conditions. It is assessed by a project.
Achieving personal effectiveness - This unit is concerned with the personal and organisational aspects of your role. It looks at how to plan and prioritise work activities and to demonstrate that you work effectively with others by offering assistance, resolving difficulties and meeting deadlines etc.
