Course Details:
The AAT operates a unit-based Education and Training Scheme. The scheme consists of 22 units of competence of which you choose 16. These are organised into three stages:
Foundation (7 units of competence)
Intermediate (5 units of competence, 2 of which are common to the Foundation Stage)
Technician (7 from 12 units of competence, 1 of which is common to the Foundation Stage).
These three stages are accredited as NVQs Level 2, 3 and 4 respectively. If you do not wish to complete the full scheme, you may attempt one-stage or individual units and obtain individual Unit Certification.
Units of competence: Group 1
- Unit 8: Contributing to the management of costs and enhancement of value
- Unit 9: Contributing to the planning and control of resources
- Unit 10: Managing systems and people in the Accounting Environment
- Unit 22: Contribute to the Maintenance of a Healthy, Safe and Productive Working Environment*
Group 2 Choose one of the four units. We only offer Unit 11. If you are interested in other units please let us know.
- Unit 11: Drafting financial statements (Accounting Practice, Industry and Commerce)
- Unit 12: Drafting financial statements (Central Government)
- Unit 13: Drafting financial statements (Local Government)
- Unit 14: Drafting financial statements (National Health Service).
Group 3 Choose two of the following four units:
- Unit 15: Operating a cash management and credit control system
- Unit 17: Implementing auditing procedures**
- Unit 18: Preparing business taxation computations
- Unit 19: Preparing personal taxation computations.
*Note: Unit 22 need not be repeated if completed at the Foundation or Intermediate Stage.
**Note: We are unlikely to be able to offer this unit because of low takeup.
In addition to College attendance you will need to spend several hours each week on home study in order to achieve competence.
Assessment: Skills test, Examination, Portfolio.

Fees:
Payable to AAT, the annual membership fee of 69 and examination fees of 43 for each paper sat. Retail price of books 115.65. You are advised not to buy your books before the start of the course. Rates applicable from 1/9/08 - 31/8/09
