Course Summary:
To produce acoustic engineers capable of finding practical solutions to problems relating to the control of noise and vibration in the environment and the work place. There are two start dates, in September and February.

Course Details:
This course is designed principally for you if you have completed the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) Postgraduate Diploma or a first degree in a relevant area.

Where appropriate, credit will be given to relevant prior learning/experience in Acoustics and Noise Control by way of exemption from some parts of the course. However, the MSc course involves much more in-depth analytical treatment of the subject than the Diploma and additional tutorial support in Mathematics will be provided prior to the course starting.

Our Acoustic and Noise Control team draws on expertise developed through many years of successful teaching, research and consultancy, and is supported by strong links with employers and practitioners in the noise control industry.

The IOA Diploma course has been run at Nescot since 1978 and this is now supplemented by this MSc, which has been designed to incorporate the Diploma course. To support these courses, our Acoustics Laboratory is equipped with a wide variety of modern instrumentation for the analysis and measurement of noise and vibration.

Additionally our test facilities including a reverberant chamber with silenced air supply and a semi anechoic room provides an acoustic testing service for industry, as well as an excellent resource for delegated practical and project work within the courses.

Assessment
The course comprises core modules and a dissertation. Assignments throughout the course, plus exams at the end of each semester.

Career Progression:
Combined with suitable experience, it leads to Membership of the IOA. You can also register for a research degree, Mphil or PhD qualification.

Other Information:
This postgraduate qualification is nationally recognised for staff working public, voluntary and private sectors. This course is Open University validated.
