Course Summary:
The aim of this course is to give you thorough, practically based training on the principles and application of Acoustics and Noise Control.
The Institute of Acoustics (IOA) Diploma course has been running at Nescot since 1978. In addition to this course, a number of short courses and workshops are offered on specific topics relating to noise and vibration.
The five-day IOA Certificate of Competence courses in Environmental Noise Measurement and Workplace Noise Assessment are offered on a regular basis twice a year. Specialist in-house training and course design can be arranged as can noise surveys, workplace noise assessment and advice on noise and vibration problems.
Course Details:
You will study General Principles of Acoustics and you will also be required to select two of the following specialist modules:
- Architectural and Building Acoustics
- Noise control Engineering
- Transportation Noise
- Law and Administration
- Measurement and Instrumentation
- Vibration Control
- Sound Reproduction
The course involves lectures, seminars, practical work and tutorials. The practical work is considered to be particularly important component of the course at Nescot.
It will give you an opportunity to become familiar with a wide range if equipment and experience in carrying out many of the standard noise measurement and analysis techniques.
You will need to attend the course regularly throughout the year and to pass examinations in all the modules and to carry out and produce a satisfactory report on a practically based projects (of 60 hours minimum), according to specified guidelines. Examinations are held in June each year and the project must be submitted by early-July.
Assessment
External exams, practical and course assignment are assessed continually throughout the course.
Career Progression:
When combined with suitable with suitable experience, this qualification leads to associate membership of the Institute of Acoustics.
