The course provides the basic body of biological knowledge, and promotes an awareness/appreciation of the development and significance of Biology in personal, social, environmental, economic and technological contexts. This will enable an appreciation of the importance of experimental and investigatory work in the study of Biology.

About this course

Normally students 16 - 19 years of age will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C with a minimum of Grade C in Biology or CC in Double Award Science higher tier, a grade C or above in Maths and English are also desirable. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Faculty.

Career Prospects and Progression

A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to Higher level qualifications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas. Biology can provide a range of skills which are useful in a variety of careers including, Laboratory Work, Field Work, Plant Breeding, Conservation Work, Environmental Health, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Working with Animals, Health Care and many more.
