British Sign Language Level 2 Certificate
This course is ideal for those who may have already achieved some basic BSL at Level 1 and who wish to continue learning and consolidate signing skills. The aim of the course is for you to develop good conversational skills at a useful level over a range of subjects. There are four main themes within this course:

  • About you
  • Eating and Drinking
  • Shopping and Spending
  • Travel
  • This qualification may enable students to obtain supervised employment working with sign language users. There are three units to be studied, which are assessed throughout the year.

    Course Content:
    Candidates must achieve all three units to gain the full qualification:

    • Unit 201 Receptive BSL
    • Unit 202 Productive BSL
    • Unit 203 Conversational Skills

    Entry Requirements:
    Applicants should have completed the BSL Level 1. Acceptance onto the course is subject to a successful interview with the course tutor.

    Entry Process:
    All applicants are invited to an interview. This provides the opportunity for us to assess your suitability and for you to obtain further information.

    Assessment:
    All three units are externally assessed by a CACDP assessor.

    Progression Routes:
    Candidates may wish to progress onto the CACDP Level 3 Certificate in BSL, as well as the Level 3 Award for Communication Support Workers with Deaf People.

    Career Options:
    Successful students may, with further training, progress to roles such as Communication Support Worker or Interpreter, for example in further and higher education, social services, research, health or law.
