Suitable For

The First Diploma in Art & Design provides a more indepth introduction to Art & Design than the BTEC Introductory Diploma. On this course you will acquire an understanding of the work of artists and crafts people.

Course Content

Through your own work, you will also develop an understanding of line, colour and form during practical workshop sessions. You will be introduced to additional materials and methods not covered on the Introductory Art & Design course and you will be encouraged to explore, experiment with, and discuss visual language.

The course covers a variety of related subjects such as:
  • 2D/3D visual communications
  • 3D model making
  • Ceramics n Drawing
  • Introduction to computer graphics
  • Painting
  • Presentation skills
  • Writing evaluations.

When developing your presentation skills you will be asked to give evaluations of your work and the work of others.

Method of Assessment

Assignment and portfolio of work.

Progression

This course will enable you to prepare a portfolio of work for progression on to specialist National Diplomas in Art & Design subjects or as preparation for employment or further training.
