Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you must be employed in a childcare setting with children 0-16 years (and their families) or training in this environment.

Everyone applying for this course will be interviewed prior to starting the course.

Suitable For

This course is suitable if you are working either full-time or part-time in the field of childcare, on a training programme covering work with children, or working on a voluntary basis in this field.

Course Content

NVQs are a system of awards that was introduced for people involved in vocational work. There are a series of NVQs specifically designed for those working within childcare.

There are six mandatory units and a choice of one optional unit from a selection of four.

Method of Assessment

To achieve an NVQ at Level 2 you must be assessed as competent in all of the mandatory units and a choice of one optional unit. The choice of optional unit will reflect your work setting. Assessment takes place in the workplace meeting national standards.
In the workplace you will need to be actively working with children. An assessor will be allocated unless you have a qualified work-based assessor. You will also gather evidence and this will be put in a portfolio. Evidence is your experiences with children.

Progression

Upon completion of Level 2, you may progress onto NVQ Level 3 Children's Care, Learning & Development.
