- Our 2D Computer Aided Draughting & Design courses are tailored to suit those candidates seeking to further their experience in the use of AutoCAD in a work environment with a view to learning time saving and industry standard techniques not covered at level 2. Namely, you should be capable of: - a) Setting up a basic drawing (using drawing limits), b) Use Autocad's cartesian based co-ordinate systems (i.e. Absolute, Relative & Polar) , c) Using Autocad's modify tools (i.e. copy, move, mirror, array etc) d) Setting up Layers (incl. Linetypes & Lineweights) e) Adding text & dimensions. As you will have experience at or equivalent to level 2, this level 3 course has a student based learning system. i.e. you can work through set exercises at your own pace. Your tutor may wish to hold focus sessions using our projection system to aid in certain areas of the course. As with any course we deliver, your tutor will be on hand to answer any queries to do with the subject

What qualification(s) can be gained?
City & Guilds 4353 - 02 : Level 3 2D Computer Aided Design Certification Two certificates will be awarded, one for the theory giving a pass/credit/distinction award and one for the practical assignments (indicating competent use of CAD at this level) Since our courses are at subsidised rates you are required to attend our courses with a view to obtaining the qualification at the end. We will assist you in registering with City & Guilds and on successful completion of all the necessary assessments, award you with your certificate of competency
How is the course assessed?
Work through the 5 module booklets (sign off & date certain exercises in City & Guilds Logbook). Complete 2 simple drawing exercises (these to be marked in stages) Complete an Internet based multi-choice test
- Course Fee *: £475.00 Examination Fee: £75.00 * Payable for each year if the course is longer than 12 months.
- You may purchase educational copies of the Autocad software from our supplier. Ask Tutor for details of our educational software supplier (approx £100)
Attendance and additional study hours
Since this is a intended as a course to last half of the academic year, you may also consider enrolling on the City & Guilds 4353-02 : 2D CAD Level 3 (see 'Next Steps' below) This can be decided in February prior to completion of the level 2 qualification Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
You may continue onto:- 3D CAD Level 3: Take your 2D knowledge a little further and produce 3D models of buildings, interiors, mechanical components, vehicles etc Add lighting and textures to create beautiful full colour images of your work.
