Plumbers are needed for new construction work and to carry out maintenance and repairs in all buildings. They work for plumbing or mechanical engineering service contractors, which range from small businesses to larger companies employing people from different trades. Plumbers also work for building contractors and public sector bodies such as local authorities. Many plumbers are self employed, either working alone or running small businesses.
