Children's Care, Learning and Development NVQ 2

Is this course right for me?

The course will enable you to work as a nursery assistant, creche worker, or special education needs assistant in a supporting role. You will to learn about the role and work alongside professionals from the Early Years sector.

What will I be learning?

There are 6 mandatory units:
  • Contribute to positive relationships
  • Help to keep children safe
  • Support children's development
  • Use support to develop own practice in children's care, learning and development
  • Prepare and maintain environments to meet children's needs
  • Support children's play and learning

You will also select one optional unit.

How will I learn?

You will have weekly workshops at the college to cover the underpinning knowledge and will be supported to facilitate your own learning. You must arrange a placement where you will have opportunity to cover required criteria and meet the competence. You will be assigned a assessor who will visit you to assess your competence in practice.

What else might I want to know?

All learners will be allocated a peripatetic assessor who will support and monitor workbased learning, further details at interview. If you require an assessment visit over a 15 mile radius from South Devon College, a further fee will be payable.

What can I do afterwards?
  • After successful completion of the Level 2 qualification, you may progress to Level 3.
  • Improved employment prospects.
  • This course will allow you to progress across sectors e.g. Health and Social Care, Play Work, Teaching.
