Course Details

This is an ideal qualification for those seeking to enhance their role by the use of counselling skills. It will also be useful for those people seeking a career change and wishing to develop as professional counsellors. The certificate consists of the following 5 units: Unit 1 Acquire, develop and practice counselling skills Unit 2 Understand essential counselling theory Unit 3 Understand professional issues Unit 4 Develop self Unit 5 Contextual framework for counselling practice Assessment includes an exam. It is a College requirement that all students must achieve 80% attendance on their course

Qualifications required:
The minimum age of entry is 18 years. Applicants should hold the NCFE level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills/3702 or have considerable experience of working on a one to one basis in a voluntary organisation (eg CRUSE) which can be certified, or be able to produce evidence of successfully completing an equivalent course. In addition students must be able to obtain appropriate references and successfully undertake and in-depth interview at the college. A basic level of literacy is also required. Students must be in receipt of an appropriately clear CRB check. Hull College reserve the right to offer or refuse places on this programme.

102 hours (2 or 3 terms/20 weeks)

September start: Tuesday 9am-12noon or 6pm-9pm. January start: Monday 4-9pm or 9am-3pm.

Progression:
This course provides a progression route to the Foundation Degree in Counselling which incorporates the NCFE Level 4 Diploma in Counselling, after which candidates may seek BACP accreditation as a counsellor.
