Course Description
A pre-service or in-service qualification aimed at candidates who would like, or require, an introduction to teaching/training/tutoring in the lifelong Sector or are seeking career progression within their area of work.

This is a 12 week, part-time course delivered at The Hub site; the course includes taught sessions, tutorials, workshops and micro-teach sessions or lesson observations.

Course Structure
This is a one unit qualification, comprising of the following sections:
  • Section 1: Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
  • Section 2: Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
  • Section 3: Demonstrate session planning
  • Section 4: Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
  • Section 5: Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping


Delivery of a micro teach session and completion of assignments.

Course Entry Requirements
All learners will need to complete an application and interview prior to enrolling.

Candidates will be required to undergo initial assessment to determine their aptitude and basic skills.

In-service candidates should have achieved a Level 3 qualification in their subject specialism.

You should have good verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to attend taught sessions and meet deadlines.

Course Progression
Credit points awarded on completion of this course can be accredited towards achievement of Associate Teacher Learning and skills status.
  • CTLLS certificate in teaching in the Lifelong Learning sector Level 4.
  • DTLLS certificate in teaching in the Lifelong Learning sector Level 5.


Course Career Prospects
  • On completion of this course students will have had an introduction to the role of an Associate Teacher or trainer.
