Course Overview This is a professional qualification for those in or wishing to work within the electronics industry. This is the first year of a two year programme.

Qualification gained: HNC in Electronic Engineering

Course Content: This course covers analogue and digital electronics and microprocessor engineering. In addition, you will study units in Business and Management Techniques, Maths and Engineering Science (a general unit common to Mechanical as well as Electronics courses) and Programming Concepts - this gives you an introduction to learning a high-level language such as Visual Basic. A professional electronics CAD software package (Proteus) is used in many of the subjects to give you the opportunity to explore circuit action by highly visual simulation, before testing the real thing. In digital electronics you will use modern Programmable Logic Devices to implement and test your designs. The Engineering Design and Project units gives you an opportunity to work with one or two other people to design and implement a solution to an engineering problem of interest to you.

Work Experience: Relevant work experience is desirable but not essential.

Course Assessment: Assessment is via written assignments of which there are 5 or 6 per subject per year. Assessment may include internal exams for some subjects.
