The course leads to a Foundation Degree qualification validated by the University of Glamorgan.
Course Features
Four work experience placements of a month each in local care agencies help students make career choices.
Study visits as part of the course to a variety of agencies.
Opportunity to specialise in the both years through choice of option modules.
No examinations - assessment is continuous by completion of assignments.
Many opportunities to develop initiative, and group working skills.
Much student support available on site, ranging from learning support for study skills, through to financial advice and personal counselling.
Career Prospects and Progression
Entry qualification for degrees in Social Work and Nursing as well as Social Science Degrees. Posts may be obtained in many local social care agencies or developing new community projects in care. Progression to BSc Care Studies at Coleg Sir Gar.
Modules
Year 1 includes the following compulsory Core Modules: Social Care and Health Organisations; Using Research in Health and Social Care practice; Equality Diversity and Rights - and two option modules which may include Advocacy and Representation and Working with Vulnerable Groups. Year 2 includes the following compulsory Core Modules : Applied Social and Psychological Studies and Working with Welfare Policy. Students also complete the Employment Experience certificate which is worth 60 credits. Option modules in the second year may include Working with Offenders and Mental Health Issues.

Assessment is continuous and by assignment. There are no examinations.
