FOUNDATION DEGREE IN COMPUTING AND NETWORK SYSTEMS

Who is this course for?

The Foundation Degree in Computing and Network Systems is designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment in the computing sector.

The course combines academic rigor with hands on skills development in areas of Software Development and Network Management and Administration. It provides students with the skills and expertise to seek employment in areas of the computing sector where there is a clear skills deficit.

4 years part-time or 2 years full-time (including placement)

  • Visual programming (Java and Visual Basic)
  • Network Design, Installation and Management

Students completing the Foundation Degree will also be able to acquire professional training leading to:
  • Microsoft Certified Professional
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
  • CISCO Certified Network Associate status.

On-line learning will be used for the delivery and assessment of a number of units. Intranet and internet services will enable students to undertake learning and assessment remotely - either at home or in work.

What can I do after the course?

This course is offered in conjunction with the University of Ulster and is an innovative programme designed to provide students with the necessary high level skills needed to gain employment in a fast growing sector. Achievement of the Foundation Degree will provide progression to year 2 of the Honours Degree in Computing Science and will provide exemption from the placement year - Year 3.

Students can therefore complete an Honours Degree in Computing Science in the same time period as a student enrolled directly on the degree at the University of Ulster. Students may also transfer to other universities to complete their degrees.
