Course Structure
Study for this foundation degree will involve face to face classes in the evenings and on some Saturdays together with more flexible forms of study such as on-line learning. This combination will help you to fit your study around work and family responsibilities, the actual study load will depend on your knowledge and experience of learning support. You should expect to spend on average about 17 hours per week working on the course. This time will include background reading, discussion and thinking about what you are learning.

The course will start with an induction period in mid September and teaching will be based around three 12 week periods approximating to school terms. You will also have extra time after each teaching period in which to complete your assignments.

This foundation degree covers a wide range of topics, which are relevant to the work of the classroom assistant. It will provide you with some academically challenging ideas and help you link your practice with theoretical perspectives.

It will help you to develop your confidence in the work you do.

The course has a distinctly distance learning approach and internet communication skills will be developed with both teaching staff and other learners on the course through the use of Merlin.

Course progression
Students have the opportunity to go on to the BA working with Children and Young People programme or a related subject area.

Career Opportunities
This course allows you to develop useful skills, knowledge and understanding of the role of the Classroom Assistant preparing you to undertake responsibilities in this area of work. The credits gained on the completion of this course can be used to build up credit for a full degree.
