The aim of the course is to develop the student's ability to communicate effectively. The course is topic based. Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening skills are practised on a weekly basis. Topics are studied with reference to French culture and society and include a variety of topics such as: Youth, Sport, Media, The Environment, Education, etc.

About this course

Normally students 16 - 19 years of age will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C ideally, including French at Grade B or above. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Faculty.

Course Content

Candidates have independent control of listening material in exam and use of language laboratory and self-study packs.

Grammar is dealt with in a supportive and systematic way.

Career Prospects and Progression

A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to Higher level qualifications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas. Now that the single European Market is operating there are more opportunities for people who have studied languages. The knowledge of French opens up a wide range of job opportunities including Business and Finance, Travel and Tourism, Teaching and Interpreting the MoD and Customs, amongst others.
