Course Description: What is the course about?
This subject is a post 16 examination for all those wishing to study science further and who have a strong interest in the human aspects of biology. It covers the place of man in his
environment, how he impacts on this and how he can live a healthy lifestyle in today's world.
The specification includes disease and its prevention and the functioning of the main systems of the body. It concludes with work on genetics and study on the possibilities of treating diseases with new techniques derived from genetic engineering.
Where can this lead me?
The programme is a worthwhile educational experience for all and a suitable preparation for careers which require knowledge of Human Biology. It provides a foundation for further studies in Human Biology and related subjects. It is a science qualification for those adults wishing to go on to Higher Education. Many students proceed into teaching or careers in health areas.
Programme Aims
A one-year programme, open to full-time and part-time students during the day or in the evening and based upon the AQA post 16 syllabus, leading to GCSE in Human Physiology and Health.
Programme Content
The subject will develop scientific inquiry as well as a positive attitude to health and emphasises the personal, social, environmental, economic and technological aspects of Human Biology.
