Health & Safety in Workplace L4 Award
This qualification, which replaces the CIEH Advanced Certificate in Health and Safety, is designed for those working in any business in a role that includes responsibility for the management of health and safety issues. Typical roles include:

Candidates successfully completing this qualification will be able to:

  • guide and advise on aspects of the management of health and safety in the workplace

  • . Candidates with aspirations to register as a trainer with CIEH should note that the College also offers the CIEH Professional Trainer Certificate as a separate course. This course provides the appropriate training skills needed to deliver CIEH qualifications. When combined with the Level 4 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace, it allows candidates to register as a trainer of CIEH Level 1 and 2 Health and Safety qualifications (subject to fulfilling CIEH's work experience, knowledge and/or skills development requirements).

    Course Content:
    The qualification covers the following topics:
  • Health and safety management
  • Health and safety culture
  • Workplace and work equipment
  • Hazardous agents
  • Legislation

Special arrangements to support candidates with learning difficulties can be made, although we do ask that you make the College aware of any special requirements prior to booking a place on the course. Support may also be available for candidates for whom English is not their first language. Again, we would ask that this be discussed before a place is booked.

Entry Requirements:
You should be employed in an owner, management or senior supervisory position with responsibility for the management of health and safety issues. It would also be beneficial to have previously achieved the CIEH Level 3 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace.

Entry Process:
There is no interview required.

Assessment:
Candidates will be required to submit two work-based assignments of 1,500 2,500 words and sit a written examination of 2 hours. There are eight assignment topics set by CIEH one is compulsory and the other must be selected by the candidate from the remaining seven. The list of topics will be given to candidates during the first week of the course. The two assignments must be completed and passed before a candidate can sit the examination. To achieve the qualification candidates must pass both the two assignments and the written examination. Candidates recording an overall mark of 6074% will achieve a pass grade, 7589% will achieve a merit grade and 90% and above will achieve a distinction grade.

Progression Routes:
The CIEH Professional Trainer Certificate is also offered by the College as a separate course for those considering registering as trainers with the CIEH.
