HNC Administration and Information Technology
This course aims to provide a high level of information technology, administrative and organisational skills as well as 2 credits of options in for instance Human Resource Management to allow entry or progression to the post of Administrator/Secretary in a variety of organisations. Students completing this qualification can articulate to Year 2 of the HND on a part-time basis. Successful students have an excellent track record of gaining employment/promotion and undertaking further studies at HND and degree level.

FULL-TIME
Course Content
Core: Office Technologies; Information Technology in Business (Databases, Word Processing and Presentation Applications, Spreadsheets), Office Administration, Communication, Book-Keeping, Personal Effectiveness.

Options: On this course you can choose from a range of options or specialise in the followng areas: Medical Administration or Human Resource Management. A work placement is also optional. Students doing the medical options can be credited with the new PDA Certificate in Medical Administration.

Entry Requirements
1 Higher or 12 relevant SQA Units at Intermediate 2 or higher or other relevant qualifications or experience.

Study Mode
Full Time, Part Time, Day Release, Evening and Distance Learning.

Access to 2nd Year of HND Administration and Information Management Technology or Degree Courses.

DISTANCE LEARNING
Aim:
This newly revised course has been designed in consultation with employers to provide the skills required in today's office including a high level of IT skills - covering Databases, Spreadsheets, Word Processing and Presentation Skills, as well as book-keeping, communication and personal effectiveness. Specialism in Human Resource Management or Information Technology may be undertaken as part of the course as well.

Length of Study:
The course consists of 12 Higher National Credits, each of which lasts 18 weeks with tutor support.

Study Method:
Home based study with tutor contact for help and advice.

Assessment:
Assessments on this course are continuous throughout the year and consist of various methods including open and closed book assessments and/or oral presentation. In addition there is a closed book examination (graded unit) towards the end of the course which assesses elements of all core units. This must be undertaken under supervised conditions. Some unit assessments must be taken under supervised conditions either in college or elsewhere with appropriate invigilation.
