Course Description: The HNC has been designed to allow students to develop an understanding of Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Chemical Laboratory Techniques and Analytical Methods. The programme will explain the rationale and principles of qualitative and quantitative analytical methods used in scientific investigation. This qualification is particularly useful for individuals employed in the Manufacturing, Engineering, Scientific and Environmental sectors.
Year 1 modules include: Fundamental Chemistry; Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry.
Year 2 modules include: Further Chemistry; Chemical Practical Techniques and Analytical Instrumentation
Entry Requirements: Prospective students should hold either a:
- BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in a Science related subject or
- At least 1 A Level pass (in Chemistry) and supporting passes in GCSE at grade C or above or
- Mature students who have laboratory experience will be considered on an individual basis.
- Mature candidates can be admitted at the Course Tutor's discretion without these qualifications if they have a relevant education or employment background.
Progression/Career Opportunities: The course is suitable for entry to a Chemistry or Environmental Honours degree. In some circumstances the first year of the Degree would be exempt. Alternatively, those seeking employment are qualified to hold a supervisory position in a Laboratory environment.
Did you Know? This is the only Level 4 Higher Education course in chemistry in an FE College in South Wales. Students will study at both Bridgend College and the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.
