ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Many mature students with no qualifications or experience of studying since school, do very well on A level courses but all students will be offered appropriate advice at enrolment as to the suitability of the course. It is expected that students under 20 years of age will have a strong GCSE background as evidence of their suitability of the course. Some AS subjects such as languages, Sciences and Mathematics should have been studied to GCSE standard previously. Applicants may be asked to complete an initial assessment test in literacy and/or numeracy to help assess their suitablity for the course and to ensure that appropriate support is made avaialble where necessary.

Please see below for entry qualifications required for students wishing to study a full A Level in one year.

Students studying Evening AS/A Levels must normally be at least 18 years of age.
PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
An AS Level is the first part of an A Level and can be taken by itself to provide students with an AS qualification. Students may then wish to study the second part of the A Level, the A2, the following year. In exceptional cases, for some subjects and for suitably qualified students, an AS and an A2 may be studied in the same year, subject to timetable limitations.

It must be emphasised, that to take a whole A Level in one year, or two separate AS Levels in one year, is a very demanding and intense challenge. It will require a commitment of two evenings a week for a full academic year as well as at least 6 hours a week of personal study. Students need to weigh up the demands on their time that taking a whole A Level will make.

For this reason, in most cases we will only enrol students for ONE subject or qualification. Students who wish to do a full A Level in one year must normally EITHER have studied the subject before to A Level and achieved an E OR have passed other related A Levels with at least a D OR have a degree in a related subject.

The College reserves the right to refuse admission to part-time AS/A levels if it is considered that this course is not suitable for the student.

All students studying these courses are supported by specialist tutors and have access to all the facilities of the College. The tutors role is to support students to help them achieve their learning goals or refer them to an appropriate support agency.

STUDYING AS AND A2 PROGRAMMES AS A PART-TIME STUDENT
The College considers a part-time student as one who studies for a maximum of ten hours a week. However, because of the challenging nature of AS/A Level programmes, we would recommend that evening students do not study for more than 2.5 hours a week and that students who study during the day study for no more than 5 hours a week.

Evening AS and A2 classes are 2.5 hours each. Daytime AS and A2 classes take place at different times during the week, totalling five hours a week each. Part-time students would 'infill' these classes with full time students.

AS/A2 SUBJECT TIMETABLE IS LIKELY TO BE:-

Please note that if numbers of enrolments are low, evening classes may not run.

Mondays - AS French, Literature
Tuesdays - AS German, Italian, Maths, Spanish and A2 Human Biology
Wednesday - A2 French, Literature
Thursday - A2 German, Italian, Maths, Spanish, AS Human Biology

PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
Universities are interested in applications from mature students and are usually flexible about entry requirements to many programmes provided they are sure that the applicants have the academic potential to succeed. However, an A Level pass is seen as a good indicator of this ability, and A Level qualifications are the traditional route into University.

AS and A Level passes are also recognised by potential employers as evidence of an applicant's intellectual capacities and self managment skills.
