Course Start Date (s): Sep
Fee Information: The College charges a range of fees, primarily Home and Overseas. Under 19s assessed as Home, do not pay the course fees, we only charge a 20 enrolment fee which is refunded if you complete the course. Home students over 19 undertaking their First Full Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE A-C) or their First Full Level 3 (equivalent to BTEC National or 2 ALevels) will be charged 20 enrolment fee plus any examination fees. For Home students over 19 receiving certain state benefits, the 20 enrolment is charged and not refundable. In all other instances, you will be charged the Home-EU or Overseas Fee.
Students will need to purchase their own uniforms and equipment for this course. This will be discussed during the interview.
About the course:
If you wish to specialise in dealing with Afro-Carribean Hair this is the course for you. During the course you will learn how to Shampoo, condition, cut,dry and finish Afro- Carribean hair. You will learn the processes of perming, colouring and setting of hair.
The course will give you the opportunity to learn about health and safety in the salon, risk assessment as well as give you the confidence to describe the wide range of products available and their use.
This programme is very popular with all students as we have experienced industry trained professional in addition to well equipped salons. To ensure that students have the knowledge of the subjects students are supported with our interactive learning web which has been specially designed to make studying easier and more exciting. Logging on, you will find a wealth of information about hairdressing topics aimed at helping you to make the best use of your time in and out of college. Students are able to access study guides, notes, demonstrations, timetable information and have their own email addresses.
The College Learning Centres have an excellent range of facilities and provide all the information needed for studying this qualification. There is a mix of traditional learning facilities such as books, videos, magazines and newspapers as well as access to a wide range of on-line resources. Each Learning Centre has facilities for groups work as well as quiet study areas. The College offers first-class tutorial and welfare services to provide support and guidance whenever it is needed Students will complete keyskills during this course which will aid with underpinning knowledge and employability skills.
WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE THIS QUALIFICATION?
This qualification provides knowledge and practical skills in hairdressing. NVQs are work related qualifications. They reflect the skills and knowledge needed to do a job effectively and show that a candidate is competent in the units that they have achieved.
COURSE DETAILS
Mode of attendance - 3 days a week 9.30-4
The subjects taught are;
- Advise and consult with clients
- Shampoo and conditioning of hair and scalp
- Style dress and finish hair using a range of techniques
- Change hair colour using a variety of techniques
- Cutting hair
- Style hair using plaiting techniques
- Perm, relax and neutralise African Caribbean hair
- Promoting products and giving a good impression
- Health and Safety
- Keyskills
The majority of tasks will take place in our hairdressing salons providing a realistic working environment for assessment.
Students will need to purchase their own uniform and equipment for this course. Dependant on circumstances there maybe additional funding available .
Assessment:
Course is assessed through practical assessments in the purpose built hair saloons which provides a realistic working environment with treaments being performed on paying clients. There are also written and oral questions which will need to be carried out. An internal and external verifier will verifiy students work
