Mature students without formal qualifications are welcomed on the course. Acceptance onto the course is at the discretion of the Faculty.

Course Content
This course aims to provide skills acquisition, knowledge and experience for students to gain employment in the Outdoor Education Industry. It is designed to be mentally and physically stimulating while providing opportunities to cope with new challenges and learn leadership skills.
Course Features
Provides a broad based introduction to the requirements of the Outdoor Adventurous Activity environment.
Focuses on personal skill acquisition, group safety and programme management.
Students have the opportunity the work with local schools.
All students are encouraged to gain a relevant work placement.
Students will develop skills, knowledge & understanding relevant to this employment sector.
Career Prospects and Progression
Successful completion of this City & Guilds NVQ will qualify students to progress onto Higher Education courses. Students would also be very employable in the outdoor activities industry.
Modules
The course is divided into: - - College based theoretical and practical studies - Practical skills development - Work placement units of study - Organise people and resources for outdoor programmes - Establish and maintain effective working relationships - Promote a culture of health and safety - Promote the conservation of the environment - Contribute to improving personnel organisation - Design outdoor education programmes - Deliver education in the outdoors - Promote transfer of learning - Organise travel for participants and equipment - Support the protection of children from abuse Students will also be encouraged to join National Governing Body Award Schemes for training towards various Awards that are Nationally recognised, e.g.: - - Hill walking (Basic Expedition Leader Award - BELA) - Rock Climbing (MLTB Single Pitch Award) - Kayaking (WCA Star Awards, WCA Coaching Scheme) - First Aid the course can also be studied on a part-time basis
Method of Assessment
The course is continually assessed through practical observations, personal competency & assignments. A personal portfolio of evidence is required. No external exams are taken.
