PAINTING AND DECORATING - TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE AND/OR NVQ

Who is this course for?

These Construction Awards are offered at Intermediate and Advanced Levels. The courses are unit based, involving in-college theory lessons and examinations, practical sessions and assessments. The courses provide vocationally relevant knowledge and skills, which can improve employability within these vocations.

Successful completion of units or the full Award can contribute to the achievement of an NVQ when vocationally employed.

National Vocational Qualifications are unit based, involving in-college theory assessments and at-work practical assessments and evidence collection and production. You MUST be vocationally employed and a portfolio of the specified evidence must also be completed. If necessary, you will be required to attend lessons in college to acquire the knowledge and skills specified.

This college-based component will include the related Technical Certificate qualification and safety tests. Painting and decorating in the construction industry is much more skilled than DIY. Oil rigs, bridges and steelwork need heavy duty coatings, while stately homes and five-star hotels may need painters and decorators who can apply gold leaf to their ornamental ceilings.

Candidates need to be good with their hands, be neat and tidy and have a good eye for detail. They should be quite fit and be prepared to travel to different sites.

Content includes:
  • Basic Decorative Finishes;
  • Specialist Finishes
  • Working from Drawings and Plans
  • Coving, Texturing and Centre Pieces
  • Scaffolding

You MUST comply with all related Health and Safety policies and procedures and accept responsibility for your own actions.

How long is this course for?

College attendance may vary depending on employment status and/or timetable provision, but may involve 1 to 2 days/week at college within the academic year.

The full Certificate may take more than one year to achieve.
