About this course
Normally students 16 - 19 years of age will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C . It is strongly recommended that students have English and mathematics at grade C or above, due to the requirement of producing extended essays and statistical analysis within the examinations. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Faculty.

Course Features
The course enables learners to develop an understanding of the human mind and human behaviour. Upon successful completion of this course learners will understand their actions and thoughts more clearly, and develop an increased understanding and tolerance towards others.
Learners will develop many essential skills through studying psychology. They will learn to think critically, and to express themselves clearly. These skills are essential preparation for university regardless of the university course being studied.
The course benefits from a highly qualified and dedicated team of psychology teachers who work hard to ensure learners have an interesting and insightful learning experience. The team provide learners with a network of support and encouragement throughout their studies.
Career Prospects and Progression
A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to Higher level qualifications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas. Studying Psychology may lead to professions such as Social Work, Probation Work, Teaching, Nursing, the Police Force or Administration and Management. Psychology graduates may work in the Health Service or Education Authorities as well as in industry, advertising or journalism.
Modules
AS level: Unit 1: PY1 Approaches in Psychology. You will study four psychological perspectives, Behaviourist, Psychodynamic, Biological and Cognitive. Unit2: PY2 Psychology: Core studies and Applied Research Methods. You will study ten core psychological studies which have informed the development of Psychological understanding. A2 level: Unit 3: PY3 Psychology: Research Methods and Issues in Research. You will study research Methods in great depth, and statistical analysis, and also you will examine the scientific method, ethics in psychological animal and Human research and finally ethical issues in real life research. Unit 4: PY4 Psychology: Controversies, Topics and Applications. You will study controveries such as the nature nuture debate, cultural and gender bias, and free will versus determinism. The `topics` section focuses on Memory, Relationships and Levels of Consciousness. `Applications` refers to topics such as Health Psychology, Criminal Psychology and Abnormal Psychology.
Method of Assessment
AS level: One examination in January, and one in May. A2 level: One examinaiton in January, and one in June.
