If you are interested in social issues and want to develop knowledge in Social Science subjects or progress to a Social Sciences degree, this course is for you. You should enjoy reading, as there is a large amount needed on this course.

You will study: Research and Methodology (looking at the ways Social Science studies human behaviour), Sociology (the study of people in social groups), Psychology (the study of the mind and behaviour), History (the study of the known past), Politics (study of authority and government), Geography (the study of the environment and its effect on humans).

Units are assessed by either closed book (exam) or open book written assignments. There is also a Graded Unit exam in early May, which gives a grade of A, B or C.

Further Study/Employment
The HNC will gain you access to a year 1 place in university. However, you may be able to gain entry to year 2 of some degree courses. Work may be in administration, local government, banking, police, civil service, retailing and education.
