If you are interested in social issues and want to develop knowledge in Social Science subjects or progress to a Social Sciences degree, this course is for you. You should enjoy reading, as there is a large amount needed on this course. You will study Research and Methodology (looking at the ways Social Science studies human behaviour); Sociology (the study of people in social groups); Psychology (the study of the mind and behaviour; History (the study of the known past); Politics (study of authority and government); Geography (the study of the environment and its effect on humans).

Units are assessed by either closed book (exam) or open book written assignments. There are also 3 Graded Units, which give grades of A, B or C across the course. In year 2 you will study Sociology, Psychology, Politics and History as well as Research Issues and Criminology.

Further Study/Employment
The HND will gain you access to a year 2 place in university. However, you may be able to gain entry to year 3 of some degree courses. Work may be in administration, local goverment, banking, police, civil service, retailing and education.
