Course description
This certificate is required qualification for anyone teaching adults within an Associate Teacher role. Please see separate information in this pack regarding different roles. It is the next step from the Award in Preparing to Teach in the LifeLong Learning Sector (PTLLS). This course replaces previous City & Guilds qualifications, namely 7407 Certificate in Further Education Teaching (Stages 1 and 2) and 7302 Certificate and Diploma in Introduction to Delivering Learning for those in the Associate Teacher role. The course is delivered part time over two terms.
What will I study?
This Certificate comprises three mandatory units and a further optional unit totalling a minimum of 24 credits on the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) counts as your first mandatory unit and is worth 6 credits. The further two mandatory units are:
• Planning and Enabling Learning: 9 credits
• Principles and Practice of assessment: 3 credits
You will then be offered an optional unit which will be negotiated with the group at the outset. The optional unit will be worth 6 credits.
How will I be assessed?
Each unit is assessed through both theory and practical assessments. You will be required to keep a reflective learning journal from the commencement of the programme, to be completed after each session attended throughout the CTLLS programme. You will also be expected to complete this form after each assessment.
You will be expected to make, and keep, deadlines for the completion of the award.
What if I already have a teaching qualification? Will I be exempted?
If you already hold a teaching qualification it is possible that you will exempted from all or part of some of the units. Please contact the course leader for further information. You will need to provide original copies of any relevant certificates for these exemptions to be confirmed with the awarding body. There will be no reduction in fees for any units
