Course programme

Course Content: You will complete a personalised programme. Following an initial assessment period at the beginning of your programme, you and your personal tutor will devise an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will identify agreed targets for learning and the activities you will complete to support you in achieving these targets. The activities you may take part in include: Travel training to support you in accessing public transport independently Food preparation which includes budgeting, shopping and either basic meal preparation or more advanced meal or food preparation Horticulture Woodwork Creative projects Media/ICT projects Projects working in the community In all activities, you will be practising your practical maths and English skills. How will I be assessed? You will be initially assessed for a period of time at the beginning of the course to help devise your personalised programme. Assessment will then be on-going throughout the year. You will review your progress within each activity with the tutor and support staff - and your progress towards your targets will be reviewed with your personal tutor each half term. The support you receive in each class will be reviewed throughout the year. Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? You will be asked to make a voluntary contribution to trips throughout the year and may need to provide some personal safety equipment for your chosen activities. What can I do after this course? If, at the end of the year, you have made good progress and have the potential to achieve more, there may be the opportunity to complete another year on this programme. You can also consider progressing to a higher level course at the College or to seek employment and training.
