NM3010 - 12 Lead ECG and its use in Assessment of the Patient CPPD

Module outline and aims

The recording and interpretation of the 12 lead ECG is becoming an essential skill for
staff that work in high dependency areas. Using this diagnostic tool assists in the care of
the acutely unwell patient and in some cases provides vital information, allowing the best
evidence based care to begin without further delay.

Content outline

The module will guide you in a systematic way through the recognition and interpretation
of 12 lead ECGs and includes:

Anatomy and physiology of cardiovascular system
Electrophysiology
Systematic approach to ECG Rhythm recognition
Systematic approach to the 12 lead ECG and the ‘normal’ ECG
Acute Coronary Syndromes
Bundle branch blocks, hemiblocks, cardiac axis
Fast and narrow arrhythmias
Fast and broad arrhythmias
Drug management

This module can be taken as part of the BSc Nursing Studies top up degree. If you wish to complete a top-up degree, please apply directly on the Nursing Studies programme webpage. If you would still like to complete this module as a CPPD student but would like to complete a top-up degree at a later date, please note that you will only be able to transfer a maximum of 30 credits which have been awarded within 5 years prior to the start date of the programme (top-up degree). Work/Clinical Placement Requirements

Non EEA students can only apply as part of a programme, not as a stand-alone module.

The module requires you to be:

• Working in a suitable practice area
• Working in a clinical placement
• Have a clinical mentor.

English Requirements

For those students whose first language is not English one of the following qualifications is also required:

• IELTS: 7.0
• Previous study in a UK University or Institution where the course is taught in English

Please note that due to changes in the UKVI's list of SELTs we are no longer able to accept TOEFL as evidence of English language for students who require a CAS as of April 2014.
