City & Guilds qualifications are recognised for their high level practical skills and are for professional and hobby sewers alike.
The 7160 is a flexible modular scheme across a range of garments e.g. skirt, trousers, shirt/blouse, jacket, boned bodice.
The Award scheme is taught over 63 hours per module. You will be expected to undertake work in your own time in addition to the taught hours.

You can undertake them one at a time or enrol for the Certificate scheme where you work on 4 modules over 130 hours. You will explore design, fashion and produce a portfolio of technical samples which will support your garment construction and future work.

You will use your skills to design, plan and make one garment per module building up a portfolio of design and practical skills.
These courses are highly practical - there is no essay writing.
On completion you will be able to progress onto another module in the scheme.

The cost of the Award includes 63 hours tuition and City &Guilds registration and certification fees. The cost of materials is not included in the course fee.

Jane trained in dressmaking, pattern cutting and design and has a City & Guilds Fashion qualification (degree level) and is a fully qualified teacher (Cert Ed). Jane has worked for many years as a couture designer/maker and has breadth of teaching experience in adult, further and higher education. Jane set up UCTuition in 2005 in response to diminishing practical skills courses for adult learners. Course programme

Course review:

The 7160-02 Award scheme is in a modular format across a wide range of garments eg skirt, trousers, shirt/blouse, jacket and boned bodice.
Under the Award scheme you will undertake one module at a time on a rolling programme building a comprehensive portfolio of dressmaking practical skills. Each unit is taught over 63 hours with self-directed study time.

The 7160-02 level 2 scheme is for those with provable good quality dressmaking skills.

Each unit has a small design element, technical sampling, background fashion research and you will design and make one garment per module.

City and Guilds courses are highly practical. There is no essay writing.

You can study either daytime or evening or a mix of the two making these courses highly flexible.

Please note: Courses start dates are on a rolling programme when you are ready to start and their is a place available.

One to one and part distance learning courses are available in a flexible
way. Price on application.
