If you want to drive a bus or coach for a living, you will also need to pass initial qualification tests to gain a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC). These can be taken at the same time as your vocational theory and practical tests. Once completing your theory you'll be able to proceed to the Practical training. If you require a pack containing the forms to obtain your provisional entitlement. This is required before continuing on to the theory and practical tests. Suitable for: Trainees wishing to become Drivers of category D+E licence to drive larger buses, over 8 seats with a Trailer over 750kg. To drive a bus, or coach, you will usually need to have a vocational driving licence for that category of vehicle. To get this, you will first need to apply to add provisional entitlement to drive larger vehicles to your current licence, and then pass the theory and practical driving tests.

About this course

you will normally need to apply to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency for a passenger carrying vehicle entitlement on your driving licence. For larger buses, and coaches, a category D entitlement is needed, before you can apply for your D+E. To drive a large goods vehicle or passenger carrying vehicle, you will need to take a theory and a practical driving test. The theory test There are two parts to the theory test for lorries, buses and coach drivers - a multiple choice part and a hazard perception assessment. These are carried out on a computer at a Pearson professional test centre.

Course programme

This is a 5 day Driver Training Course provided on a 1:1 basis. Training is for 5 days and on the 5th day you will go to test. Group Training is available upon request. The course will cover all aspects of Driver Training, preparing you for the PCV(PSV) DSA Driving Test. All details will be provided upon request to help you along the way, to gaining this vocational licence upgrade. Please feel free to contact the office and we will provide you with as much help as possible to getting you started. The price includes your Training on a 1:1 basis with and DTp Approved Driving Instructor registered with the DSA, and your test fee. Current legislation now allows you to learn to drive this category within guidelines as listed below.

D Vehicles - Any bus with more than eight passenger seats, with a trailer up to 750 kg

D+E Vehicles - As category D but with a trailer over 750 kg

Learn to drive at 21*, **

*Age 17 if you are a member of the armed services.

** You can drive these vehicles at age 18 if one of the following apply:

1) You are learning to drive or taking a PCV test or Driver CPC initial qualification

2) Having passed a PCV driving test and Driver CPC initial qualification, you can drive under any of the following conditions:

driving on a regular service where the route doesn’t exceed 50 km
not engaged in the carriage of passengers
while undergoing a national vocational training course to obtain a CPC initial qualification
driving a vehicle of a class included in sub-category D
13) Having passed a PCV test before 10 September 2008 and driving under a bus operator's licence, or minibus permit, or community bus permit and any of the following conditions:

driving on a regular service where the route doesn't exceed 50 km
not engaged in the carriage of passengers
driving a vehicle of a class included in sub-category D
1***Age 20 after passing a PCV driving test and Driver CPC initial qualification when driving on a regular service within GB. The 50 km restriction on the length of the route doesn’t apply.

To drive a large goods vehicle or passenger carrying vehicle, you will need to take a theory and a practical driving test.

The theory test
There are two parts to the theory test for buses and coach drivers - a multiple choice part and a hazard perception assessment. These are carried out on a computer at a Pearson professional test centre.

The two parts of the theory test can be taken seperately or on the same day and you can choose which one to do first. You need to pass both parts to gain an overall pass.

Once you have passed the theory test you can then apply to take your practical driving test.

Comments: This is quite a rare vovatuonal licence upgrade. if you are considering this D+E upgrade then you will be highly sort after in the PCV driving industry.
Career opportunities: To widen your opportunity's within the PCV Industry. Very few Company's have drivers witht he full D+E entitlement.
