The pediatrician is the one specialized in the medical field and, in particular, in the diagnosis and treatment of children from birth to pre-adolescence. A pediatrician is a child's doctor who provides not only medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill but also preventative health services for healthy children. A pediatrician manages the physical, mental and emotional well-being of children as part of their care at every stage of development, both in illness and in health. The goals of the pediatrics study are to decrease the child and infant rate of deaths, to manage the spread of infectious disease, to promote healthy lifestyles for a long healthy life, and to help ease the problems of children and adolescents with chronic circumstances. Pediatrics is concerned not only with the immediate management of the sick child but also with the long-term effects on quality of life, disability and survival. Pediatricians are involved with the prevention, early detection and management of problems including: developmental disorders, behavioral problems, functional disabilities, social efforts, mental disorders including depression and anxiety disorders.
