The perforator is the person who drills, in particular, a worker assigned to drilling in mines, oil fields, etc .; technician in charge of punching cards in data processing centers. The perforator uses the drilling machine as a machine, a machine for drilling earth, stones, rocks, masonry, etc. A first subdivision that can be made is the method used for drilling: percussion and rotation. A subsequent distinction can be made as regards the energy that drives them: compressed air, pressurized water and electric. Small rotary drilling machines generally used to obtain through holes on sheets of thin material are called drills. For deep drilling of land for oil exploration, geothermal, and for exploration of the subsoil, special probes or drilling rigs capable of drilling in rotation are used. The percussion drills are equipped with foil, a pointed steel rod, with which it is beaten with an alternating movement against the bottom of the hole. Small compressed air impact drills are also called pneumatic hammers. The first pneumatic punching machine was produced by Giovanni Naldoni from Palazzuoli in 1855. Perforation is the mechanical blanking process in which holes of different shapes and sizes are drilled in sheet metal sheets or strips (called coils) to obtain a perforated sheet. The perforation of the sheet is carried out by means of a punch and die which are mounted on special molds of mechanical or hydraulic presses.
