This A level is a suitable progression for students who have GCSE in Dance, Drama, Music or Expressive Arts. Students should have the college's minimum entry requirements for A levels. A pass in either GCSE Music, Dance, Drama, English Language or Literature would be useful. A positive, lively approach and a hunger to learn are essential qualities for success on this course.

What are the main features of this course?
You will work both in groups and as an individual to develop social skills, and develop qualities of imagination, sensitivity and artistic knowledge and understanding. You will establish an approach to the performing arts which is multidisciplinary. You will acquire skills in each of the art forms of Dance, Drama, and Music and study approaches to performance which write them. You will devise original pieces of work and perform existing work. You will develop skills in communication and the ability to discuss your practical work using appropriate technical and expressive language. You will work with professional artists, in the local community and in collaboration with Arts organisations such as the Birmingham Repertory Theatre

How is the course assessed?
The course is modular. The AS forms 50% of the full A level. The AS may be taken as a stand alone qualification or as the first half of a full A level course. For AS you complete 3 modules and for A level you complete a further 3 modules, making a total of 6 modules for A level. Assessment is by coursework (15% of total AS marks, 30% of total AL marks), Written Examination (15% of total AS marks, 30% of total AL marks) and Performance (20% of total AS marks, 40% of total AL marks).
