This GCSE is suitable for anyone interested in theatre, dance or general performance drama. Previous experience is helpful but not necessary, however, you should be willing to work positively and sensitively with others and communicate ideas through performace.

Performance Arts - GCSE

What are the main features of this course?
This GCSE will allow you to explore a range of Art forms within the Performing Arts industry and to explore the contribution that the industry makes to society.
You will work in groups and develop social and practical skills.

Hours of lessons per week: 3.7 (single award) 7.33 (double award)

How is the course assessed?
Candidates must achieve 2 units for the single award GCSE and 4 units for the double award GCSE. Unit 1: Internal assessment. You will understand the planning, researching and developing processes to create a performance event. Unit 2: External and Teacher assessment. You will work towards a performance event in response to a commission given by the Board in January. Unit 3: Internal Assessment. Creating Work 2. You will build on the experience gained in Unit 1 and you will plan a performace event. Unit 4: Working to a Commission 2. External and Teacher Assessment. You will create a performance in response to a given commission.

Who should study this course?

Where can I go next?
This course will prepare you for both AS and A level Drama and Theatre Studies and As and A level Performance Studies. The communication skills you will learn and the skills you will gain in working with others will support any studies you may undertake and will help you in all life situations.
