About this course
A first degree or diploma, or an equivalent international qualification, usually in music.
In order to demonstrate appropriate knowledge and ability, you may be requested to submit two examples of recent written work, such as essays, directly to the RCM as part of the admissions process. You may also have an interview to discuss your work either on the day of audition, or at an alternative mutually convenient time. You will be told if you need to do this.
If your first language is not English, you must achieve a satisfactory standard in an approved test in English.

Master of Music: MMus in Performance
Mode: full-time
The MMus is a flexible degree that, in addition to your Principal Study, offers you a wide range of electives to match your interests and, if you wish, a Second Study. Practical work is underpinned by the musical disciplines that inform performance. These include theoretical and musicological approaches, aesthetics, analysis, the study of recordings, collaborations with composers, performance practice and composition. Students on the MMus can also elect to take elements of the specialist Historical Performance, Accompaniment and Conducting pathways.
All students take two MMus units taught through lectures, small-group seminars and one-to-one tuition. These units involve both written and spoken tasks. Normally taken in Year 1 of full-time study, the first unit is assessed by a portfolio of written work together with a short spoken presentation. In the second unit, normally taken in Year 2, students choose between a Lecture Presentation or the submission of a Critical Project.
