Entry Requirements
Cost
Some costs for texts. Normally we expect to provide costumes, sets, lights, theatres, etc. But you will probably want to invest in make-up to support your own performance needs. You will be expected to provide normal learning materials such as stationery.
The Programme
In a normal week you will work in practical sessions, workshops, lectures and seminars. You may also be expected to rehearse outside college hours for performances and practical projects. It is important that if you have a part time job it is flexible and can fit around this. You will need to complete written and research assignments - these vary from week to week depending on shows and deadlines.
The Programme Content
The course covers a minimum of five units or modules. The units all relate to Performing Arts and Acting, but some are aspects which may be new to you. You will perform to a paying audience and study methods of acting; other modules include Devising Drama, Contemporary or Classical Theatre, Improvisation, Physical Theatre, as well as many others. Consideration is also given to use of the voice and to acting auditions. The main aim of the programme is to cover aspects of theatre productions. You will rehearse, perform in, and organise these productions. Throughout the two years of the course you will take responsibility for costume, props and marketing, advised and supported by staff.
Progression / Careers
In the past, students from acting courses at North Devon College have progressed to Higher Education at establishments such as East15, Central School of Speech and Drama, LIPA, Nottingham University and Birmingham University to study Drama. Some students in the past have gone straight into the profession (local and national performances, theatre technician, etc).
