Course programme

In order to be awarded the BTEC HNC in Performing Arts you must achieve a minimum of 120 credits. These credits will be achieved through a series of units, each unit having its own credit value. All units will be individually graded as ‘pass’, 'merit, or ‘distinction’. The assessment criteria for each grade will be clearly set out in each assignment. As a member of the ‘Year Out Theatre Company’ you will study the units outlined below. Those in bold are mandatory units and the others are selected to create the distinctive features of the Year Out programme at Central Sussex College.

Units:

Outreach Drama, Physical theatre, Movement for the Actor, Production Skills for Performance, Developing Acting Skills, Devising Performance, Creative Arts Professional Practice, Creative Arts Research Skills.

Programme Aims:

  • To inspire learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attributes essential for successful performance in working life and thereby enabling them to make an immediate contribution to employment.
  • To enable progression to employment
  • To enable progression to an undergraduate degree or further professional qualification in the performing arts or related area.
  • To develop practical skills to inspire confident practitioners in the wide ranging field of Performing Arts
  • To enable independent, creative learning and self-development.
  • To work alongside tutors and industry professionals
  • To establish a creditable theatre company that is efficient, creative and marketable in the local community.
  • To encourage independence of approach to study and continuous self-reflection.
  • To develop transferable skills that will allow the learner to approach a range of different progression routes.
  • To provide a range of extra-curricular theatre visits, workshops, work placements and residencies.
  • To link into the College’s enterprise scheme.
