The Programme
This is a vocational course in Performing Arts equivalent to three A Levels for UCAS. It is coursework assessed with no exams.
The Programme Content
The course is split into 18 units or modules. The modules all relate to Performing Arts, but some are aspects may be new to you. You may study Movement, Rehearsal & Performance, Physical Theatre, Contemporary & Classical Theatre, Musical Theatre, Stage Management, Performing Arts Business, Devising Drama, Make-Up, Performing with Masks, Contemporary Dance, and Choreography as optional units. The main aim of the programme is to cover theatre productions which have a drama, dance or musical theatre flavour. Students rehearse and perform in, crew, and organise these productions. They paint and construct sets and props, and in some cases light and provide sound and music for the shows, advised and supported by staff.
Progression / Careers
In the past, students from the BTEC National Diploma have progressed to Higher Education at establishments such as E15, Central School of Speech and Drama, LIPA, Rose Bruford, Oxford Stage School and Bath Spa University to study acting, musical theatre, dance and production. Now that we have Foundation Degrees at North Devon College, you can continue performing to a higher level, without the stress and financial hassle of leaving home. Some students in the past have gone straight into the profession (local and national performances, as a theatre technician, etc).
