Course programme

This course is divided into two pathways: Interdisciplinary or Acting. Key performance and industry-related skills will be developed through both pathways.

On the Acting pathway, you will explore traditional acting techniques, TV and film acting, and classical theatre performance. On the Interdisciplinary pathway, you will develop a cross-arts approach to creating performance, with an emphasis on physical and contemporary musical theatre. Both pathways will develop skills in physical theatre, developing voice for actors, the business of performing arts, and the historical context of performance alongside performing to an audience.

You should have the following qualifications:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English language, or
  • A Level 2 qualification at Merit or Distinction and a Functional Skills English qualification at Level 2

You will have some experience of the performing arts, whether through school / college or amateur dramatics. Your preference might be to sing, dance or act, but you will be open to learning about all three disciplines. You will be assessed at a combined interview and audition prior to full enrolment.

You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework, written assignments and giving presentations. Practical assessment will include some public performances but also in-class presentation and workshop assessment.

You can go onto higher education or further training at drama school, or into related employment. Previous students have progressed to the Central School of Speech and Drama, Middlesex University, De Montfort University and Dartington College.
