The UAL Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for learners wishing to progress to a level 3 vocational qualification such as the UAL Extended Diploma in Performing Arts or a related level 3 qualification.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment takes the form of a number of practical assignments and a Final Major Project. Assessment i​s continuous and takes place at regular times throughout the course. Planned reviews and tutorials are also completed to support student development and achievement on the course. Students will get feedback at the end of each stage of the course to enable them to improve on their learning and performance.

Graded, more formal, assessment will take place at the end of each year. The final unit requires students to take responsibility for their own learning through a personal project that combines planning, research, ideas, practical skills, evaluation, reflection and presentation. This final​ stage includes both external assessment, completed by UAL Awarding Body, in addition to internal assessment completed by college tutors and is subject to external moderation by the UAL Awarding Body. ​ ​ On successful completion of the qualification students can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction. ​ ​


What are the entry requirements?

Minimum qualifications: Level 1

Minimum requirement is 3 GCSEs at Grade D and Maths & English Language at a minimum of GCSE Grade E.

What else do I need to know?

A UAL Level 2 Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs at Grades A* to C. The course provides a specialist work related programme of study that extends and develops key knowledge and practical skills required in the sector and offers different emphasis through the specialist units. Attendance : A maximum of 4 days at college for one year

English and Maths

English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.

Entry Level / Level 1 and Level 2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme for their ability.

Level 3 programmes: You will need to meet the course entry requirements specified on the course information above. For the majority of our Level 3 courses, students will need grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths. If this is not specified in the course entry requirement, then you may be able to study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

What can I do after this course?

 A UAL Level 2 Diploma provides the opportunity for preparation for employment and provides a good grounding to progress on to a more advanced course such as a UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma. With further training or study,
students may go into careers that include stage performer, dancer, instructor, choreographer, teacher, front of house, theatre work and much more.
