The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts is designed to provide young people with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree level study or employment in the performing arts. It provides an opportunity for those who have an interest in the performing arts to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding and provides a supportive transition from general to more specialised study.

What modules are covered?

You will study a total of 12 units which cover a range of performance skill in Acting, Drama, Musical Theatre, Singing, Movement, Dance, Production Skills and Contextual Theatre. The units are as follows:

Unit 3 - Introduction to Professional Practice
Unit 4 - Critical and Contextual Awareness
Unit 5 - Production Skills and Context
Unit 6 - Performance Skills and Context

UAL (University of Arts London) Diploma and Extended Diploma in Performing Arts

How will I be assessed?

Assessment takes the form of a number of practical assignments and a Final Major Project. Assessment i​s continuous and takes place at regular times throughout the course. Planned reviews and tutorials are also completed to support student development and achievement on the course. Students will get feedback at the end of each stage of the course to enable them to improve on their learning and performance.

Graded, more formal, assessment will take place at the end of each year. The final unit requires students to take responsibility for their own learning through a personal project that combines planning, research, ideas, practical skills, evaluation, reflection and presentation. This final​ stage includes both external assessment, completed by UAL Awarding Body, in addition to internal assessment completed by college tutors and is subject to external moderation by the UAL Awarding Body. ​ ​ On successful completion of the qualification students can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction. ​ ​What is the entry process?

What are the entry requirements?

Minimum qualifications: Full level 2

A BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject or an Intermediate GNVQ in a
related subject or at least 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C with a minimum level 1 in
Maths and English and appropriate work experience. Applicants are selected at
interview and audition. Experience in the performing arts is a bonus.

What else do I need to know?

The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts is included in the UCAS tariff and attracts
tariff points for each final grade as shown below:

Pass 180
Merit 280
Distinction 420

Attendance: A maximum of 4 days at college for two years.

English and Maths

English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.

Entry Level / Level 1 and Level 2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme for their ability.

Level 3 programmes: You will need to meet the course entry requirements specified on the course information above. For the majority of our Level 3 courses, students will need grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths. If this is not specified in the course entry requirement, then you may be able to study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

What can I do after this course?

A UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma is valued by employers and higher education. If you want to get a job on completion of this course you could apply for jobs in the performance industry. It also provides a good grounding to progress on to a more advanced course such as a BTEC Higher Diploma or a BA degree.

Fees

Course tuition fees are free for UK students under 19yrs.

All students may be charged for materials e.g. equipment, clothing etc.

UK students aged 19 and over will need to pay tuition fees as well as any materials, registration and exam fees.Some adults may be eligible for free tuition.Please contact us for more fee information.

The 24+ Advanced Learning Loan

If you are 24 or over at start of this course, you can apply for a new loan to cover the course fees. There are no repayments until the course is completed and you are earning £21000 or more. Therefore if you earn up to £21000 a year there’s nothing to pay back. If you earn £22000 a year your loan repayments would be as little as £7 per month. Call us for more information.
