  • You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2

  • You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.

What will I study?
Subject you will study include, working safely in an engineering environment, developing yourself and working with other people on engineering activities.
You can also study, making components using hand tools and fitting techniques, engineering, machining, assembling mechanical components, working with sheet metal working with thick plate joining, using welding techniques, using oxy-fuel gas, cutting equipment, assembling electronic components, wiring electrical circuits, making components from wood based materials, making components by moulding/laying up, making sand moulds and cores for casting fettling castings, finishing surfaces by applying coatings or treatments, carrying out routine servicing of mechanical equipment and systems, carrying out routine servicing of electrical/electronic equipment and systems. You may also study key skills or core skills. Students attend this course to gain skills for either industrial or non industrial fields, such as manufacturing, maintenance engineering, construction, model engineering, vehicle restoration, classic car restoration and welding for artists. You can study one of two pathways: Electronics or Electrical & Electronics.

How will I be taught?
The course is mostly workshop and activity based for you to gain relevant skills.

How will I be assessed?
You will need to complete a portfolio of work which is assessed and verified throughout the course.

All students will be allocated a personal tutor and our extensive learning resources are available to all students.
