Mechanical aptitude and arithmetic tests are used to help decide whether the course is the right one for you. As well as having keen practical interests and abilities you should also have studied Maths, English and Combined Science and be capable of securing these and other subjects at GCSE grades A-D.

NVQ Level 2
Introduction
This full-time 36 week course runs from September to July and aims to provide the skills and training required for anyone commencing a career in manufacturing/engineering.
This is a Nationally recognised qualification, the awarding body being City & Guilds of London.
This NVQ Level 2 qualification can also form part of the Initial Stage of an Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme.
The Apprenticeship is the training route which allows young people to continue with their studies as well as gaining work based experience.

Course Content

- Producing mechanical engineering drawing using a CAD system
- Producing components using hand fitting techniques
- Preparing and using lathes for turning operations
- Preparing and using milling machines
- Preparing and using CNC turning machines

- Information & Communications Technology
Further Education: Dependant upon your GCSE results you may additionally be eligible to join the Level 3 technical certificate program identified below.

Progression
By successfully completing the full-time programme you could achieve:

National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Performing
Engineering Operations, which can lead onto an Engineering
Apprenticeship programme.

Entry to year 2 of the Level 3 Engineering Technical Certificate. This
would be undertaken on a day release basis.

Level 2 Key Skills in IT, Communications and Application of Number.

Employment with a local engineering company as an Advanced Apprentice,
where your training will continue to NVQ level 3.
- Progression route to HNC or Foundation Degree.
