Introduction
This full-time 36 week course runs from September to July and aims to provide the skills and training required for anyone commencing a career in manufacturing/engineering.
This is a Nationally recognised qualification, the awarding body being City & Guilds of London.
This NVQ Level 2 qualification can also form part of the Initial Stage of an Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme.
The Apprenticeship is the training route which allows young people to continue with their studies as well as gaining work based experience.

Course Content
The requirement for an NVQ Level 2 PEO qualification is the successful achievement of six units which allows for progression onto the advanced apprenticeship scheme.
Mandatory Units:
  • Working safely in an engineering environment
  • Working effectively & efficiently in engineering
  • Using and communicating technical information
Plus three units from:
  • Producing mechanical engineering drawing using a CAD system
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • Preparing and using lathes for turning operations
  • Preparing and using milling machines
  • Preparing and using CNC turning machines
Key Skills: Key skills are also a mandatory part of all apprenticeship programmes so you will be studying the three key skills shown below at either Level 1 or Level 2

Further Education: Dependant upon your GCSE results you may additionally be eligible to join the Level 3 technical certificate program identified below.
  • City & Guilds 2800 Certificate in Engineering (Level 3)
All candidates undertaking our 1 year full-time engineering programme will have the opportunity to complete all the units required for entry onto an Engineering Apprenticeship.

Assessment
Continuous assessment by building a portfolio of evidence of competence - no exam
Progression
By successfully completing the full-time programme you could achieve:
  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations, which can lead onto an Engineering Apprenticeship programme.
  • Entry to year 2 of the Level 3 Engineering Technical Certificate. This would be undertaken on a day release basis.
  • Level 2 Key Skills in IT, Communications and Application of Number.
  • Employment with a local engineering company as an Advanced Apprentice, where your training will continue to NVQ level 3.
  • Progression route to HNC or Foundation Degree.
