Course overview

This course will enable you to take advantage of the growing field of athletic development and provide students with the necessary skills needed to work in this field. Developing practical skills underpinned by scientific knowledge - essential for personal training/ strength and conditioning professionals and applied sports scientists will be fundamental to this course of study. On completion of the course you will be well equipped to work in the advanced areas of personal training, strength and conditioning and applied sports science.

A key focus of the course is to prepare you for accreditation by the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA), which is a key prerequisite to work in the strength and conditioning arena. This is done through a variety of theoretical and practical case studies that would potentially be assessed during your UKSCA assessments. Alongside this the course has a large emphasis on work experience to increase the employability and links of students upon course completion. The course teams have strong links within various sports science settings, allowing students to gain valuable experience of elite level sport. Previous students have been placed with Charlton Athletic FC, London Scottish RFC, Gymbox, LA Fitness and a variety of athletic clubs.

This course is delivered in a fully-equipped gym and laboratory using up-to-date equipment such as Olympic lifting platforms, force plate analysis, VO2 Max, blood and lactate testing. This will put you the forefront of the personal training/strength and conditioning industry.
